Default Date changing format

I have a form in which I set some date fields to be the same as the previos
record. This works fine except when the day is less than 12 in which case the
sytem swaps them around to the US format of mmddyy. This defeats the purpose
of setting the field to default.

How do I force the Field to stay as DDMMYY??
