Default File Locations

I have come across an interesting problem. In the course
of a couple of months I have not used a copy of MS Word
(2002) on a particular computer. When attempting to use
it recently I found that it would open but as soon as I
tried to access a file using file open the program locked
up. I have traced the problem to the default file
locations. It references a location that is no longer
valid. I can get to the option location but as soon as I
click on modify it again locks up.

I am wondering if there is another way of changing the
default file location without having to re-install the
entire program.

Barry
Option 1
Temporarily re-create the old default file location (perhaps re-create
an empty directory/folder), make the changes and delete the old
default location

Option 2
(Running WinXP)
Registry entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Office
10.0
Word
Options -> DOC-PATH

You know it makes sense.
