Default font won't stick

Dear Folks,

Using Windows 2003, 11.6x (and by the way, wouldn't it be
easier if one could cut and paste the version number)
along with Windows XP.

I have been unable to get my default font selection
to "stick".

I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Help.
