Default font

How do I set the default font to Verdana for the whole
page? I created loads of pages which appeared as verdana
on Internet Explorer on my machine. When I used another
machine to view on internet explorer, it appeared as
times new roman.
When I highlighted the text and chose verdana, it adds
masses of code on all the cells of the page.

Can you just declare Verdana as the default at the top of
the page?

thanks

Put the following between the <head>..</head> tags on the page:

<style type="text/css"><!--
body, p, th, td, li {font-family: verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;}
-->
</style>

The browser will use the first font on the list that is installed.

That's great - can you also help me with default size,
please?

My default font is verdana, although I understand the
concept of font family for alternatives.
In Frontpage, I had chosen size 2 for Verdana, which the
drop down box says is 10pt.

I tried modifying the code you gave me as follows

<style type="text/css"><!--
body, p, th, td, li {font-family:
verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font size: 10}
-->
</style>

This comes out as Verdana but a lot smaller than when
hard coded as Verdana size 2.

I kept trying different sizes and font size 17 seems to
be close to Verdana 10pt. How do the font sizes work, why
should I need to use 17?

thanks
Grace

Grace:

Considering that points are a print font metric, it's best not to use them
on the web.

When using CSS to specify sizes or dimensions, it's always required that you
include the unit of measure, whether that be points, pixels, ems, percents,
etc. So, change your CSS to this -

<style type="text/css"><!--
body, p, th, td, li {font-family: verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font
size: 12px;}
/* adjust that size value to suit */
-->
</style>
