Default language: the Bush-syndrom: Can't get rid of US!!!

Wim

I have set my default language to English (UK) and saved it in
Normal.dot, but when I open a new document, the language remains
English (US)!!!! The style of the first line of the blank doc is
Normal, and Normal has English (UK) as its language. Only after "Clear
Formatting" do I get the English (UK).... Very strange. In MS Office
Language tools, all set to English (UK).

What do I do wrong, that I keep on getting this Bush-syndrom.... I
don;t even know him personnaly!!!
Please help me.

ok, try this [Word 2003]--> New Document
Click Format --> Styles & Formatting.
Select Normal, Right click --> Modify
Lower Left, select Format--> Language --> English(UK)
Click OK
Then check Add to Template box, then OK
Close the file without saving.
It worked for me

It will (might) also ask if you want to save the changes you made to
Normal.dot. Click Yes.

I've tried that of course (before I sent this query to this group). And
my Normal Style has English (UK) as its language, as I wrote in my
earlier contribution).....
Any other suggestion?

I just tried it with 5 different language changes, and I'm guessing you
might have more than one Normal.dot file, stored in different locations.
In case I wrote it wrong, here's exactly what I did:

Open Word (2003), get a new document if one doesn't open automatically.
Click Format-->Styles & Formatting
Right Click on the Normal
Left click on Modify
In the Modify Style Box, Click on Language
Highlight the Language you want, (English UK)
Click OK
Then check the "Add to Template Box" and click OK
Click File -->Close
Save the changes "No"
Close Word
Message asks if you want to save the changes to Normal.Dot. Click yes

Worked for me every time.

IF THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU; Look for a lady named Susan Barnhill. She
may be more help. I'd suggest you don't make any Bush comments, he IS OUR
PRESIDENT!

Good Luck & Hope I helped

In a new document, this is the way it starts (English (US). Only after
selecting the text and press CTRL+space (clear formatting of text), it
changes into English (UK).

I will search for this lady's name. Thanx for the suggestions
