default margins

The default margins in word 2002 are set to 1" top and
bottom, 1.25" left and right. When I open a new blank page
to work on, the curser is set at the very top of the page
with no margin at all. I check the page setup and it shows
the margins set correctly as stated above. It was working
fine and now it is not. I scanned for viruses and spyware
and that did not help. I reinstalled office xp and that
did not help. Any ideas?

Are you in print layout view? View>Print Layout

Not sure if this feature was added with 2002 or 2003, but
check Tools>Options>View>Print and Web layout options.
Check or uncheck (not sure which) the white space between
pages (or something like that)

I am in normal view. I just click on new document and a
blank screen comes up with the cursor at the very top of
the page.

Margin representation is not displayed in Normal view.
Shift to print layout view to see a representation of your
margin settings.
