Default value for a field

Is it possible to define a default value for a field and,
when the form is being filled out,
allow the the user to decide whether or not to use
the default value or enter their own?

You can define default values through the "Tools > Default Values" menu
option or by setting the Default Value on the Properties dialog box for
fields that allow it. The user can always choose to change a default value if
desired. A default value is just a starting point unless you somehow force
the default value to always be the definite value entered for a particular
field.
