Hi,
Upon openeing a new worksheet I would like to have the celformat of the
entire worksheet to have following default value:

Number
negative values in red
2 decimals after comma
points after "thousands"....

I can do it manually but in most cases I use the same settings..
Can this be done??

Thanks

Check out the "Create a template for workbooks or worksheets" topic in
XL Help, and follow the instructions for creating a default template.

Open a new workbook. Customize as you wish.

File>Save As Type: scroll down to Excel Template(*.XLT) and select. Name your
workbook "BOOK"(no quotes). Excel will add the .XLT to save as BOOK.XLT.

Store this workbook in the XLSTART folder usually located at........

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

This will be the default workbook for File>New or the Toolbar button File>New

WARNINg................Do not use File>New...Blank Workbook or you will get the
Excel default workbook.

NOTE: Existing workbooks are not affected by these settings.

You can also open a new workbook and delete all but one sheet. Customize as
you wish then save this as SHEET.XLT in XLSTART folder also. It now becomes
the default Insert>Sheet.

More can be found on this in Help under "templates"(no quotes).

Do you have an alternate startup folder designated
(Tools/Options/General)?

If so, the template should be in that folder...

Do you have it in the correct XLSTART folder?

There could be several of these floating around.

The path I posted is the proper one.

DO NOT hit File>New...Blank Workbook or you will get the default Excel workbook.

If properly saved as a Template(*.xlt) it will not open from the Alternate
startup folder or from the XLSTART folder.

It must be called as a new workbook from File>New

When I try to enter the location
C:\Documents and Settings\JP\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
the moment I close and restart excel, the corresponding entryfield in
options/general turns to be empty
Strange

Do not place that path in Tools>Options>General.

Place the BOOK.XLT in that folder on your computer.
