Defining Page Numbers for Sections of a Report

B

Barb R.

I need some assistance with setting up page numbers for different sections of
a report.

I have successive sections in the document and I know how to set up the
beginning page number for the section. What I want to do is to put a page
number for the section in the format I-1, I-2, I-3, or S-3, S-2, S-3. I
want to be able to choose the first character. I've seen that there's
something related to the bullets and numbering section and I haven't been
able to figure that out to see if it would help.

I also have figures in some of these sections that I want to put in a table
of figures and I'd like to have the page numbers show as I-1, I-2, etc. Can
someone assist?

Thanks,
Barb

There are two ways to do this. You can type anything you like before a {
PAGE } field in the header/footer, but it will not be picked up by the TOC.
If you want to include a chapter/section number in the page number such that
it will be picked up by the TOC, you have to use a bona fide "chapter
number," as detailed at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/ChapterNumber.htm

I ended up putting in a "Chapter Number" using the Bullets and Numbering
commends and had to put it in very small white font so that it wouldn't be
visible to the user so that I could get the sections labeled the way I
wanted. You're right, it was not easy to do.

Same place you formatted it as white and small: when you select Font in the
Numbering dialog, Hidden is one of the available font properties.
