Delay in typing in filenames on network drives

Hi,

I have changed the default directory to save files in MS Word Excel
etc, this is now a network drive. However when I go to type in the
filename there is a couple of seconds of delay before the type
appears. This has been noticed on both Win 2K and XP Pro machines
running both Office 2003 & 2000. Is there any way to correct this?
