Delayed messages

I have several Outlook Exchange clients that don't seem to have any new
messages until they happen to click on a folder. Then, BAM! they have new
messages - with some being a number of hours delayed. The workaround seems
to be a computer restart, but is there a fix for this?

Thank you

Is there a firewall on your network? This is a symptom of UDP packets being
blocked.

We have a CISCO router, but this is affecting both internal and external
messages.

Well, as I said, it is a symptom of blocked UDP packets, but it may have
other causes as well of which I'm unfamiliar. Have one of your network
staff put a packet sniffer on the link between an affected PC and the
Exchange server and see if the traffic looks complete.

Had the same problem, and we found it was due to an
incorrectly configured setting on our firewall software.
Port must be set to accept UDP packets. Made the change
in the software and all is well.
