Delete function frozen-Entourage

javapoppa

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Email Client: pop My wife deleted a block of e-mails and before it was completed she clicked on a message in the block that she wanted to save. This cause the tool bar containing the Delete button to turn gray and freeze. Now large blocks of her mail in her Inbox and Delete files show as blank space (white screen) when these folders are opened but either clicking on this space or scrolling through it restores the e-mails listed there. At times clicking on a block of e-mails (Wednesday for example) causes the entire block to turn blue or gray. She is unable to send or receive e-mail nor is she able to delete; the delete key on the keyboard appears to work but the message restores itself when the folder is reopened. Restarting did not help and I have also tried a Safe Boot but to no avail. Suggestions?

Hold down the Option key and select to rebuild.

How to rebuild:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/rebuild.html>

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild
does make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and
backup get merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

Note: Unless you have a lot of free space, rebuilds will often fail to
complete.

If you cannot rebuild and Entourage will open, you can manually export
the data to import into a new Identity. How to manually move your data.
(when import fails and/or you need to move to a new Identity same
version or revert to an older version)

A data base rebuild solved the problem and Entourage in now operating properly.
Thank you.
