T

tenlev

I cannot delete the hit counter. I have deleted it on
the view page, saved and then published - it is still on
the website. Also I have gone into reset - put in 0,
saved and published ... still on website. I have also
deleted cookies as well as refreshed page and still
there. Please can anyone help me.

Thanks

Be default, the hit counter on your local machine is marked to not publish.
So, unmark it, or, altnerately, open your live web via fp and delete it
there.

Thanks Tom however I do not understand, I am not using FP
just publishing straight from Front Page. It is not
resetting to 0 which I prefer however in the past I have
just deleted it, saved and republished. It just still
stays the same on the web and keeps going up every time I
go look. I prefer to just set it to 0 however this does
not work

Thanks

Tom - I am really a novice at this so if it is not too
much trouble could you please detail. The reset, save
and publish does not change to 0 which I want and the
delete, save and publish does not delete from the web
page.

Why does it not delete nor reset to 0. I am not sure
where you are talking about re checking off 'do not
publish' - why do I need to check that off if I want to
republish with the counter now to 0

I apologize for being so dense and really appreciate
whatever assistance you can give me.

Thanks again

Open the live/remote site directly in FP, then open the _private folder, select the pagename.htm.cnt
for the page with your counter, right click, select open in Text editor / Notepad, change the
number, but not the number of characters, save and close notepad.

Hi Thomas:

I did as you said, there were 11 characters shown all
zeros except for the end digit which I changed to zero.
I saved and then clicked top publish to web. Cleared out
all cookies first and typed the url in.

The number has not changed. I also figured out from
where you sent me to click on don't publish - still
uploaded with the same counter.

Any further info please - what if I just delete it
totally from the private file?

Thank you so much for trying

You needed to do this on the live site, not your local.

Tom - I did make changes via the live web - which I
figured out where it was. There are two files in there
however, one is an htm and one is an html. One the
counter was at 000000000048 and the other all zeros
ending in 01. I changed the 48 and now when it publishes
it worked THANK YOU THANK YOU. So obviously one of them
is not right so I tried to delete and now I get error
messages - server could not delete your request, etc. etc

You want to keep the .htm or .html that match your actual page file extensions with the hit counter.
