Delete key not working

Narelle

Please help! This problem is only in MS Word, not
Publisher etc. Highlighting text or graphics then
clicking the delete key does not delete. Highlighting
text and backspacing does not delete. Control X does
work. I've reinstalled office 2000, I've bought another
keyboard.... what should I do?

Thank you in anticipation,
Narelle

Hi Narelle,

From the Tools menu, select Options and go to the General tab and uncheck
the "Help for WordPerfect users" and the "Navigation keys for WordPerfect
users" boxes.

Please respond to the newsgroups for the benefit of others who may be
interested.

Hope this helps

Actually, this doesn't affect Delete, but it does affect Backspace, which is
considered "typing."

Hi Suzanne,
Actually, this doesn't affect Delete, but it does affect Backspace,
which is considered "typing."

Thanks for that. I think that what passes in me for a mind was
focussing on the Backspace issue more than the Delete issue.

However, I double-checked before I loosed my posting on the world and
I still find that the WP options don't seem to affect Backspace's
ability to delete selected text; but that the "Typing replaces
selection" setting does.

Maybe a) I'm just wrong about that (not unlikely), or b) I'm losing
the old marbles (ditto), or c) Narelle's problem is actually
two-fold - a WP setting interfering with Delete and a "Typing replaces
selection" setting interfering with backspace, or d) something else
altogether.

Not sure. Any further comments greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Thank you,
Doug Robbins' solution to the delete key problem was spot
on and Ed Craig's solution to the backspace key not
working fixed that problem. Thanks for the team work.
