Delete, move or reassign a task leaves a deleted task for the users in PWA

I am using Pro 2003 and Server (SP1).

One problem I am encountering is that when I delete a task (a resource
lets me know that it is no longer needed), change the resource on a task
(either just enter the new one, open the task and enter it, or use the
assign resources dialogue / replace) or move the task (mostly cut and
paste, but I haven't done extensive testing on this one) it always
leaves a task on the resource that says "This task was deleted by the
PM"

I know if the resource first rejects the task I can modify it and it
will not leave residue behind for them in PWA, I know they can hide it
manually, and there are probably other hide and filter options
available.

The issue for me is, if I change something in the actual plan file and
publish the relevant tasks, there should be no additional action on the
resource to clean up their display, it should not leave old tasks that
do not exist in the project, etc.

Looking for some information and guidance on how to get past this /
through this / around this with the least impact to my end-users, and
confidence for me that when I do something in the plan, it updates
everywhere correctly.

Thanks

Thanks Dale, I'll look into this. So this behavior is normal, that it
leaves this old data lying around? Just seems odd to me that there
would be data out there that does not match what is in the plan file.

The behavior is by design. The tasks to which you refer are formally called
"cancelled tasks" and continue to appear on a team member's timesheet to let
him know he is not longer assigned to the task. Team members can manually
hide a cancelled task by selecting the task and clicking the Hide button.
If there are many cancelled tasks, the SQL Server script I referenced is the
easier way to handle this. Hope this helps.

Worked great Dale, thanks a lot! Have it running automatically every
night on my plan file to keep it nice and clean.
