Delete recurring appointment but keep history

Is it possible to delete a recurring appointment but keep all the previous
occurances of the meeting for historical purposes?

Why not open the series and put an end date of today on the recurrence?
That should remove all future occurrences, but keep the past ones.

I believe I read that Outlook will keep only 18 months of past entries. Do
you see any history older than that?
