Deleted Items folder on Outlook will not empty

"Deleted Items" folder on Outlook will not empty. When
attempting to empty folder, I get the following
message: "Messaging interface has returned an unknown
error. If problem persists, restart Outlook."

I have restarted Outlook multiple times with no
improvement. I reinstalled Outlook twice - same problem
persists. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?
