I have been asked to delete a name from a group mailing which I did.
Now I find this person is STILL getting mailings and is getting upset.
When I go to address bookj, his name is not there. BuT when I set up a
new email and type in his name, it appears. How can I remove names
permanently? Anyone have any ideas?
There are probably two things at work here.
First is the entry in the group. Members of groups can take two forms -
either they can be pre-existing contacts that you add to the group (which is
useful, because if you change the email address in the contact it
automatically updates in all the groups that person belongs to). Deleting
the contact should delete it from all the groups.
The second way to add a member to a group is to type the address in there
directly. This will appear in the list of group members as a blue dot, not
as the contact icon. Deleting contacts from the main address book will not
affect these entries - you have to open the group and delete them manually.
As to the other issue of the name still appearing when you start to type in
an address field - this is the 'Most Recently Used' list (MRU). Entourage
keeps track of the last 200 addresses you sent to or received from, sorted
by how much and how recently you used them. This is why the email address
appears at this point. You can, in the preferences, clear this complete list
(or even disable the feature) all together.
