DELETING BACKGROUND OF DOWNLOADED TEMPLATE FOR REUSE.

I DOWNLOADED A WORD 2000 TEMPLATE FOR PLANT MARKERS. I CAN EDIT THE TEXT BUT
I CANNOT ACCESS THE BACKGROUND GRAPHIC TO DELETE IT. I BASICALLY WANT THE
FORMAT/LAYOUT OF THIS TEMPLATE, BUT DON'T WANT THE BACKGROUND. I'VE TURNED
SHOW FORMATTING ON, VIEW OUTLINE, ETC., BUT CAN'T GET RID OF THE BACKGROUND!
WHAT AM I MISSING?
THANKS FOR ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER!

Susan: I followed your advice, but I don't have any visible background to
click on to delete. I only see the background image in print preview or when
it prints out. So...I'm still confused.....

Sounds like you're not viewing images, but you are printing them. Go to
Tools-->Options, View tab, and make sure Drawings is checked, and make sure
Picture Placeholders is NOT checked.

Alternatively, it could be that a watermark is being inserted by the
printer; this feature is an option in some printer drivers.

I want to add that all of the answers you've all given me have enlightened me
and taught me more about templates - so in that regard, YES-YOUR ANSWERS ARE
GREAT AND WELCOMED-THANK YOU!

BUT....none of these are deleting the background on these plant markers.
Maybe it would be helpful for you to try the actual template yourself...I
downloaded it from the Word 2000 online template library a few days ago. it's
the one with the watercolor drawing/graphic with the herb names at the
bottom, it's landscape layout and the format is exactly what I need except
for the background. I want to replace with my own clip art logo on the top of
the 2nd part of label (it's meant to be folded over the metal marker with the
bottom half placed on the face of the plant marker. I intend to have the logo
appear on every marker and all text is formatted the same per line, but each
individual marker text is labeled differently.

If you can still help, I'd truly appreciate it - I'm a master gardener and
doing this for a non-profit. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR PAST HELP & if it can't
be done...let me know. I've been trying for over a week to create this
template.

I don't have time to try this just now (have a medical appt. to run to), but
I'll have a look later and let you know what I find out.

Hi, Gardener!!

Okay, here we go...
The photos are NOT in the header as Suzanne thought, and I assumed as well.
Just open the doc.
Use the selector tool on the drawing toolbar (looks like a mouse-pointer
arrow), and click right, smack-dab in the middle of the graphic. It gets a
border around it. Hit your delete key. These are set "behind text", so you
really couldn't grab them. But you can ONLY grab graphics with the Drawing
selector tool.
