How do you change the direction of the active message after deleting an email. When I delete, it moves up, reading the email above rather than the email below. My newest emails are at the top of my screen, so deleting and moving down to the next message is preferable.

You cannot change this behavior but you can use keyboard shortcuts.

From the Entourage Help:

Delete the current message and display the previous message
OPTION+⌘+[

Delete the current message and display the next message
OPTION+⌘+]

Hope this helps!

Tip: you can use the spacebar to easily go through your mail. Tap the
spacebar to go to the next message, or hold down the spacebar to scroll down
through a message slowly and continuously.

You have got to be kidding. Every single mail application I use (including Apple Mail, Yahoo, gmail, etc.)has an easy way to change which direction the next email is displayed. I only am trying to learn the MS Office suite for possible employment purposes, and am appalled at the lack of easy ways to control just the basic preferences of something so simple. It seems to take three steps to accomplish something that takes only one in other applications. Why?? Surely there could be a more intuitive method to give a user a way to get through their emails. It takes me twice as long to get through Entourage email as is does for me to check three different email accounts. Efficiency does matter.

Just as an FYI, your keyboard instructions displayed on my screen as something
unintelligible in between the option key and the bracket key.

Try using the Entourage newsreader to view this newsgroup. The web interface
is very poor.

Set in preferences the time for mark as read. I use 1 second. I often scan
large numbers of messages this way. Many are of no interest for me so I use
the short time to mark as read.
