Deleting emails in MS Outlook

Hi,

There is a group of emails that outlook won't let me delete. When I try to
delete them I get this message: "The messaging interface has returned an
unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook."

How can I delete these emails? They are personal emails and this is my work
computer.

Thank you!

Are these messages in a PST or on an Exchange server? What version of
Outlook?

A PST is a Personal Folders File. It's what Outlook uses to store messages,
contacts, indeed all Outlook items, generally for people using Outlook on
home computers (although this is not a strict rule, since some home users
have Exchange connections and some people with Exchange accounts at their
work also use PSTs). People whose only accounts are POP3 accounts will use
PSTs for their message store.

Exchange is a mail server generally used by businesses to allow people to
share items in Outlook like their calendars. In general, people who use
Exchange accounts keep their messages and other items on the Exchange
server, rather than in local PSTs.

If you are having trouble deleting items, first empty your Deleted Items
folder and then compact your PST (right-click on Outlook Today, choose
Properties, click Advanced, then Compact Now). Try again to delete the
items that wouldn't delete before.

I have just experienced a similar problem. I had a couple of emails which
would not delete and used Scanpst.exe to repair. Doing this caused the
emergence of about 30 emails which I had long deleted (I also keep my Deleted
box clear) and which I now cannot delete. I have tried your suggestions but
no luck - HELP!

My next suggestion, then, is to create a new PST, make it your delivery
location, then move everything you wish to keep from the old PST to the new,
avoiding the items you wish to delete or that won't delete. Then close the
old PST when you're done (right-click on the root and choose Close) and the
next time you close Outlook you can delete the old PST.
