Section Breaks are inserted to maintain the integrity of
formatting. The next section contains different
formatting, e.g., header change, layout, margins, etc. My
thinking is that Word is using these section breaks to
maintain the start and finish integrity of the master and
subdocuments. You can try deleting them after renaming
your master and subdocuments and see the result.
