Deleting Messages Taking More Space On Hard Drive

Alias,

I was running low on hard disk space and hadn't deleted
email for a while. I went in and deleted alot of email
messages but I have less free space on the computer than
when I started.

I went to tools, options, maintenance, clean up now,
compact, but this didn't help.

Any ideas on what to do to defrag or free up space so
deleting messages doesn't take up more space on hard drive?

There isn't anything you can really do with your current
pst file. One a pst file starts to increase in size it
will never shrink even if you compress. The best thing
you can do is copy your pst to a disc (CD if possible,
and only close the session so you can add to the CD
again) and start with a fresh pst file that you keep
cleaned out on a regular basis. Try setting your deleted
items bin to empty when you close.
