Deleting multiple cells

On my old mac I could highlight multiple cells in Excel and press the delete key and it would delete the data in all selected cells. With the new Mac it is only deleted the data in the first cell and not the rest? How can I fix this?

You're now using a a laptop or have one of the compact keyboards, right? You
need to hold the "fn" key while pressing delete in order to get the result.
