Deleting Non-Enterprise Views and Tables

B

Bill V

I am trying to delete a non-Enterprise Gantt Chart and Entry Table from the Enterprise Global, but for some reason, the Gantt Chart and Entry Table will not delete. I check out the Enterprise Global, go to the Organizer, go to the Views Tab and select the Gantt Chart and click delete. After confirming I want to delete the Gantt Chart, I repeat the same procedure under the Table tab for the Entry Table. After deleting both, I close Organizer, save the checked out Enterprise Global, and then close Project altogether. However, when I re-open Project and check out the Enterprise Global, both the Gantt Chart and the Entry Table I had deleted are still there.

I would appreciate any advice on what I am doing wrong.

Before you attempt to delete the Gantt Chart view and Entry table from the
Enteprise Global, apply the Enterprise Gantt Chart and Enterprise Entry
table first. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for your advice. I opened the Enterprise Global and made sure I was in the Gantt Chart view. I then opened Organizer, went to the Views Tab, selected Gantt Chart and hit delete. I got an error message that said the Gantt Chart view was in use and to switch views and then try to delete. I switched views and was able to delete the problem Gantt Chart view, but the GAntt Chart still exists even after saving the Global Enterprise and closing MS Project. Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant by "apply".

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Please re-read my last post. You need to apply the View specifically called
Enterprise Gantt Chart view (the view with that exact name) and the Table
specifically called Enterprise Entry (the one with that exact name) and then
try to delete the regular Gantt Chart and Entry tables in the Organizer.
Let me know if this helps.

The problem was that I had no Enterprise Gantt Chart View or Enterprise Entry Table in the Global (left hand side of the Organizer). That is why I was confused. I have now created these entries and the problem has been solved.

Thanks for your help

The Enterprise Gantt Chart view and Enterprise Entry table are default
objects in the Enterprise Global. It sounds like someone may have deleted
them inadvertently, not knowing what they were. I'm glad you got the
problem fixed. Well done, my friend!

Dale,

I have a similar problem to the original poster. I cannot figure out how to "apply" a view or a table. Exactly how does one do this, step by step?

Thank you.

To apply a specific View, click View - More Views, select your desired View
and click the Apply button. To apply a specific Table to any View, click
View - Table - More Tables, select your desired Table, and click the Apply
button. Remember the following definitions of a View and a Table in
Microsoft Project:

View = Table + Filter + Group + Screen (layout)

Table = collection of columns

Hope this clarification helps.
