Deleting Office X to install officemac 2008

Version: v.X Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I have Mac OSx
Memory 512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I have Microsoft Office X which has been giving me trouble for years - I have just been patiently riding thru it

It has taken a turn for the worst in that I can attach a word doc to an email but the recipient never gets it - my email server says it is sent, but even sending it to myself it never arrives

I have just purchased the 200 office mac home & student edition

What do I have to do to delete the old word before I install the new?

Also, will all of my important word docs live on???

You do not have to uninstall your current version in order to install
2008 -- you can run them both side-by-side if you wish. The one exception
being your email app if you use Entourage. You need to strictly use one or
the other. You can have both versions installed (& probably should if you
intend to continue using the present version) but if you're going to use the
2008 version just let the installer remove X altogether. It will update your
email info automatically.

If you do want to remove v.X you will be prompted to do so during the
installation of 2008. Additionally, see the recomendations on this page to
remove other items that will be left behind. It's suggested that you do so
before launching any of the Office 2008 apps:

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/index.html

The document files you have should be no problem, assuming they don't go
back to version 4.x or earlier. It may be neccessary to make some formatting
adjustments, but the content should be fine. Office 2008 will allow you to
continue those files in the old binary format although you won't be able to
include some of the newer features unless you Save As in the new (OXML) file
format. Files saved in OXML are not backward compatible with prior versions
of Office unless the free converters are installed, though. The converters
work with v.X & 2004.

Now the bad news :) I doubt that your attachment problem has anything to do
with your version of Office or with Word in any way. Issues of that nature
with attachments are generall caused by either the outgoing or incoming mail
server -- or both. I'd suggest that you contact your provider to help
resolve the matter. You might try making sure that you're using filename
extensions & it may help to Stuff/Zip the file before attaching it.

Second that. I've been using Word v.X for several years and never had an email
problem with it that I know of.
