Deleting or renaming backup personal folders

I thought I had posted this message a couple of days ago, but can't find it.
Excuse me if you've already replied. In exporting Outlook (XP Home) data to
my laptop (also XP Home), it looks like I somehow created two "backups" of
the entire "Outlook Today" personal folders tree. They don't cause a
problem, but they are confusing. I tried to delete or rename them, with no
luck. How can I do this? Renaming would be good, if I then could rename
one of those backups for personal use. Can I set up another set of personal
folders, with a new name?

What do you mean by "backups"? If they show in the Folder List, they're not
backups. If you have two identical folder sets in the Folder List, they
both contain the same things, and changing one seems to affect the other
identically, then you probably overwrote a PST with another of the same
name, thereby corrupting your mail profile. You can usually fix this by
creating anotehr profile in Control Panel>Mail, unless you're using Outlook
2000 in Internet Mode Only, but you did not state your Outlook version, so
who can tell?

What did you try, exactly?
How can I do this? Renaming
would be good, if I then could rename one of those backups for
personal use.

There are two names associated with a PST: the file name itself (i.e.,
xyz.pst) and the display name (what shows in the Folder List, i.e.,
"Personal Folders" or "Outlook Today"). To rename the file itself, close
Outlook and rename the file with Windows Explorer. To change the display
name, right-click on the name in the Folder List, choose Properties, then
Advanced. Edit the "Name" field.
Can I set up another set of personal folders, with a
new name?

File>New>Outlook Data File (or Personal Folders File, depending on version).
You will be given the opportunity to name both the file and the display
name.
