No. But, in all the time you've waited for an answer, they could have all
been deleted. ;-)

Hi Dorothy,

At first I was going to say click your heels together, and repeat, "There's no place like Home..."

But alas, yes you can do it...
When you are looking at a group of the images, hold down your Ctrl. key and left click on as many as you feel comfortable deleting, and when through, right click on the highlighted ones and choose delete from the contextual menu. Or you can press the "delete" key, instead of right clicking.

If most of them can be deleted, then click the first one, and then hold down your "shift" key and click the last one. After that hold down your Ctrl. key and click on the ones you want to keep, and after you click all the ones you want to keep, right click and chose delete, or press the "delete" key. Just practice by doing 5 to 10 at a time, and you'll get the hang of it.

You can screw up and if you do . go to Edit "undo" on any operation you think or know that your must do over. Doesn't sound fast, but believe me if you did 200 to 500 websites, it gets faster every time you do it.

You have got to be kidding???

That may consume about 3 minutes of your time. How much easier do you think
it could be?

I guess you could write a PERL script that looked in all the <img> tags,
then deleted the no-matches from your directories. But, be warned, there is
no button in FP that will write it for you.

Or maybe you could just click your ruby slippers 3 times.

Hi Dot

Do you know which one's you want to delete? If they are pictures that are
NOT linked any more and you don't have any JavaScript on the website that
has them in... (they don't show up as connected) u can go to hyperlinks View
and look in the right hand pane ... if there are lines to the grpahic then
the graphic is connected to a page if there are none then the graphic is not
being used.

I suggest you move all the graphics you want to delete to another location
just in case you want them again or you make a mistake.

I presume all your images are in the images folder?

If not

Open folders View
click on the root web and in the type column click the word 'Type' now all
the extensions such as jpg gif and .htm etc will align in groups of type.
click to select the first jpg and at the same time hold down the shift key
.... now scroll down while still holding the shift key (don't let go) and
then select the last jpg ... keep holding the key down ... you should now
have a highlighted selection of the files .
let go of the shift key
Right click on the highlighted part with the mouse and don't let go of the
right click ... move the cursor over the images folder and let go a little
box will come up saying copy and move choose move and all the images will be
moved .... FrontPage will update this for you automatically with links fp
might ask if you want to do this.... say yes...

Go to Tools | Recalculate hyperlinks ...

Now everything is pointing right and all your images are in the image
folder....

Do the same for the gifs

back to the hyperlinks view

Bring up another copy of fp and open or make a storage web on your hd ....
have the image folder open... I would name the folder the website your
moving the images from to distinguish it from future storage operations.

click on the first image and see if it's linked ... if not and you want to
delete it .. select it and holding down the right mouse drag it to the
status bar and hover over the other fp copy, which makes the application pop
up) and drop it into your folder .. or you can size both copies down so you
can see them together by dragging the corner once you have minimised
it...... and so on for all the others... Don't forget to go to Tools |
recalculate after you have finished....

If you know which images you want to delete straight off...

just go to the folder View and open your images folder ... now I expect the
images you want won't all be in a line ... so just hold down the Control key
on the keyboard ... and keep holding it down .. and select the one's you do
want ... you can drag them as I said above to the other copy and choose
move.

Most of the time, I use an FTP program rather than FP. WsFTP, Cute FTP, and there is a ton of freeware to do what you want. You don't really have to use FP for all of that. I gets faster to transfer files. It's just what you get used to doing.

FTP should never be used to upload or manage content that is on a server
that has the FP extensions, unless you fully understand how the extensions
function.
