Deleting shapes

I'm editing documents created in Word 97-2003 using Word 2007. I don't seem
to be able to delete or edit shapes that have been moved behind text. Can
anyone tell me how to do this?

Go to the Editing section of the Home tab of the Ribbon and from the Select
pulldown click on the "Select objects" item.
