Delivery schedules

My line of project work involves a lot of following shipment and delivery
schedules. What is the best way to set these up and follow them? For
instance, I land a job and the first thing I do is make a list of all the
things I need to order, then I order them. A day or 2 later, I get their
estimated ship dates and I have to follow the orders to make sure they ship
on time. These ship times can be anywhere from 1 day to 10 weeks out.

If the delivery dates are key events that trigger other tasks, then enter a
task Order abc then another task receive abc. Link the two and add a lag of
the number of days between them. Note that 5d is 5 working days or one full
week. Alternatively enter 5ed which ignores Project's calendar and last 5 24
hour days.

If your tasks are not integral to the schedule, track in Excel!
