Dell Basic Office 2003 to purchased 2003 professional?

P

Painterly

When I received my Dell computer, Dell Office Basic2003 was installed. I have
purchased Office Professional 2003 from a store to put on the computer. Do I
need to uninstall the Dell basic, before I put on the Office Professional. I
know the Dell basic is supported by Dell, but with my purchase of the
complete suite of Office 2003, I will be supported by Microsoft. How do I
make this change, and if I have to uninstall, how do I save my documents,
mail, addresses etc. Thank you for your help.

Hi Gail,

It's a good idea to backup your Outlook .PST file and your
documents for safety on a regular basis and when doing any
update or install of Office software. You can copy the
My Documents folder (assuming that's where you keep your
documents <g>) and your Outlook .PST file and your
Documents and Settings folders to a CD, or to another location
on the hard drive if you can't write a CD, as two possibilities.

Uninstall Microsoft Office 2003 Basic edition after doing so,
restart the PC then install the Professional Edition. You'll
need the full product as the 'upgrade' package won't recognize
a sister 2003 edition as the basis for upgrade, but it will
recognize the CD for an older edition of Office products or
for MS Works if you have that available.
