denying access

We have a file clerk who likes to get on the computers (usually mine) during
the lunch hour or after hours, is there anyway to lock my computer or at
least deny her access to Excel?

If you hit CTRL > ALT > DEL, does it give you the option to lock your
workstation?

* password protect Excel files
* password protect Win XP (if that's your operating system)
* catch them at it, and punch them in the head: many people respond to
this type of beating
* lock the room

When you start a computer, there are many many files that are updated
with data that can be used to show that someone logged on at a
particular time. If they log on after hours after they have been told
not to do so, use this as the compelling event to fire them. Keystroke
logger software might be used to show what this person is doing on the
computer, although you'll probably find out they are goofing on IM
rather than selling company secrets. It's easy to assume malice when
the true motivation is stupidity.

Kind of assumes that the person does not have any need to
do their work on a computer. It's kind of hard to work if you
don't have access to a computer these days, especially if you
get slugged around.

Two possibilities:
1) She gets her own computer
2) She uses the computer of someone two levels up, who just
has a computer for show but doesn't use it. It's usually the
biggest, fastest personal computer that could be purchased
at the time. Don't know what came over me those people
are probably retired but there are a lot of people around who
just use their computer for solitaire maybe she could use one
of those

Third possibility:
3) She gets fired because she can't do her job, and you do her
job as well. There is no pay increase and you become more
indispensable and never get a promotion.
