I deployed Outlook 2003 to our test systems through Active Directory's group
policy software installation service. The program shows up on our systems
add programs list in add/remove and seems to install alright, but the
problem is, when outlook starts up (server was configured for exchange
through the MST file created with the install wizard with the Office 2003
resource kit), it asks in a dialog box "Microsoft Exchange Server" as the
title what the server and use name of the logged in user is for their
profile, which has the correct information as deployed through the MST file
included with the installation group policy for it. After I click OK on the
dialog box, (user name was verified and underlined and the servername was
correct), it pops up on one system saying "Cannot start Microsoft Office
Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be
opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this
problem persists" well the server is working because we can get in other
machines with Outlook XP and 2000 currently. So I tried it on another system
and got a different error message (both were installed the same way through
group policies)... second machine same dialog box as before, information is
correct, i click ok and get "Unable to open your default e-mail folders.
Your profile is not configured." what am I doing wrong? After searching MS's
KB site for the first one I found you need to specify the path for the
profile in the MST file, so I went ahead and did that (this was from KB
article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822503) and did exactly what it said
and set the user profile path to %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ so I went uninstalled outlook on the machines,
redeployed it and still recieve that same error. What am I missing here?
Servers were alll configured through Microsoft Office 2003 Custom Install
wizard to create the MST file needed for the settings.. Thanks!
