Does anyone know if it is possible to have a template print deposit
slips and checks? I have MCR ink.

Don't you have to get your checks (cheques in English) from your Bank?

My bank gives me deposit slips for free. By the time it would take me to
load up a template, enter my data, and print one electronically, I could
have done it by hand and be on my way home from the bank.

You can write a check on anything and some banks will cash it

As a publicity stunt, I grant you, but they won't (certainly in the UK)
normally....

if you can make the template, then i dont see why not.
in the us banks will cash checks even if they are printed out of your home
computer as long as they have all the correct markings. however, if you dont
have the special ink it might take longer, and some banks might give you a
hard time

I bet you it does you just don't know about it. if you use a program like
Quicken you can have checks and deposit slips printed

Well that's what you think. I have just retired after 25 years as a
Management and Systems Accountant - NO business that I worked in, and I've
worked in many, were allowed by their bank to print their own cheques on
blank paper. For a start, cheques in the UK have special characters on them
for OCR processing, and I'm pretty sure they are very difficult to come by.
And what about fraud? No, the banks in the UK control the issue of
cheques....period.
