design master problem

I've designed an access database (2000) and now I can't make changes to the
design master. I created a replica to store the db to a school server so
other teachers could look at the information stored without changing it.
Now, I can't make any changes. From what I've been reading on the help site
pages, it looks like access defaulted my design master to a replica because I
may have made some small change to the database data without synchronizing.
But, the entire database is only about 3 weeks old, and the help pages say it
should only do this on a 60 day default. I'm well within that range of days,
and I have synchronized each time I've mad a change (daily). I'm flummoxed,
as now I need to make more changes and cannot figure out how to reset the db
as a design master so I that I can (I get a dialogue box that says access
can't locate the very file that I have open that was my design master and is
now a replica.) I'm trying the 'recover design master' option, and that is
the message I get.

Frustrated, and any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in
advance.
