Design Mode?

I was copy and pasting from website, think I hit cntrl somthing and it is now
stuck in design mode. I think. The curser looks like a number sighn and
there are dots between words. I tried to turn off design mode and it wont
turn off. Is this a virus?

No, it's "Show" mode. Click the "Show/Hide" button (see the Help) again to
turn it on or off.

Additional to John's reply, Command+8 toggles the display of non-printing
