Are Design Templates [embedded] into a presentation document or are they
referenced externally?

i.e. if i model a presentation on my home machine (using the design
templates available on my machine)

if i run it on 3rd party machine with pp installed, will it retain the
original design if the 3rd party machine doesn't have the particular design
installed?

this is for an interview and i'm not in a position to check it out first

So far as I know, the templates are embedded. I have made a lot of custom
templates on my home and laptop machine and run them on the work machine that
is hooked to a projector (I teach) and I haven't had a problem with any of
them showing up in the presentation when displayed.

Embedded. In fact, you can save as a Template (POT) file from any PPT you
have and create a new design template.

As to your concerns below .... no worries.
