Desktop notification error

Someone in my group is having an issue with the desktop notification. They
are unable to open an email from the notification box - they get an error
message that states the operation failed. They can open the email from their
inbox. We are on Exchange, Outlook 2003, SP3. Thanks!

Does it work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

If so, the issue is most likely caused by an addin that you have installed.
