Detect and Repair in OFFXP does not work

A few days ago, when I tried to open an Office program, the Windows Installer
would pop up and then display "Error 1706: Setup could not find the required
files." So, I downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and used it to
clean up "Microsoft XP Professional with Frontpage." This corrupted all my
shortcuts to Office files. I am able to run Office programs now because I
fixed the program shortcuts, but I cannot open Office files unless I open the
program, go to Open, and open it from there.

I tried to run Detect and Repair to fix this, but I got the message "This
action is valid only for products that are currently installed." Where must I
go from here? Thanks for your help!

The Installer CleanUp Utility does warn you to use it with caution.

Have you tried fising your file associations?

How do you do that? Do you mean I have to tell all word documents to open
with WINWORD.EXE (and excel documents with EXCEL.EXE, etc)? Because I have
replaced all my shortcuts to Office programs with new ones and now I can open
Office programs from shortcuts. I am thinking that I have to delete Office
programs from the Open With list and then add them back.

Or, is there a way to force-run Detect and Repair without getting the "this
action is only valid for products that are currently installed" message?

Thank you!
