Detect & Repair Doesn't work

I've got a problem with Office Pro (2003) & tried to use the Detect & Repair
function, the first time I've used it. I get an error message as follows:

"The feature you are using is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again or enter an aternative path to a folder hat contains
the installation package 511735.MainSP1op.msp in the box below"

The file path shown is as follows:

C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\Cabs\511735\

I've done a scan & can't find the file anywhere on my C Drive. What should I
do?

Hi Mikey,

Did you use any 3rd party 'cleanup' software on your PC? MSP files are stored patches that are reused by the MS Office installer as
needed. The 1706 error is looking for the original installation source CD or patch download location when it's broken. You may
want to try the installer cleanup utility then reinstall Office and the updates(you will need the CD).

I have the same issue after copying all info from (and replacing) a 40 gig
hard drive to a new 160 gig hard drive in my computer. Everything worked
except for Office 2003 pro (and Outlook). They are there but I can't access
them or get repair or even get my disk to work to reinstall. If I click on a
document, word will open, but all short cuts and listing in Programs are
gone. I get the same exact message as Mikey. Norton may have cleaned up the
file you reference, I don't know. Can you tell me how to get to the file you
recommend? Where is the 'Installer Cleanup Utility and what do I need to do?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

No, I first noted a problem one morning when I started up the PC & the
desktop icons were blanks, not the normal ones you get after installation. I
tried the Detect & Repair function, but it didn't work. Scne then I've had a
number of other problems, like I can't do updates any longer even though I'm
supposed to be able to.

It may have been broken before this, but it was the first time I'd tried to
use this function. I've not used any Cleanup programs other than the
Add/Remove facility in Windows. I've foudn the folders where the files sit &
there's plenty there, except the one I want is missing... just my luck.

If I do a remove (assuming "Remove" will work!) will I have to back up my
messages & all the other files created in Office? This would be rather
alarming as there's quite a lot, too big even for a CD. Or wuld the files
still be there once Office was removed? If so this would make life a lot
easier.
