Detect & Repair erro

Tried to repair Office 2003 Pro so I can download the office 2003 updates and
it will not work.

I get the following;
I get screen that shows Configuring office 2003
Then a screen that says gathering required information.
After this is done, I get a screen that appears after the download tries to
INSTALL which says .......Micosoft office pro edition 2003 Setup failed.

I have done like others said and downloaded the full tile and it does the
same thing.....says install failed.

Can anyone advise me how I might solve this problem?

Thanks,
tom

I am useing Windows XP Home and the update I am trying to install is
Office 2003 Sp2 and E-mail junk filter XB904631 update

Thanks

Do you have your original installation source? If it was a CD have you put
it in your main CD/DVD drive and does the computer know to look for it here?
When you run Detect and Repair it needs the original installation source to
do whatever. If you've done this, then I'm sorry--I don't know what to
suggest next--short of uninstall/reinstall. But if you haven't, try
re-running Detect and Repair with the installation CD in your main CD/DVD
drive. Good luck.

I even put the orig 2003 Office Pro CD in drive and started it and chose the
option on the CD itself to detect and repair. It failed also.

Okay, now I'm stumped. Before you uninstall Office 2003---do you have any
other applications that are considered part of Office but not included in
your original installation CD? (I have FrontPage that's not part of
Professional--but Publisher, Access, etc. could have been purchased
separately and are not part of your original Office installation/CD failure).
If you do, run Detect and Repair for these programs first. Otherwise, come
back--it will be on to step 2 (if we can figure out what that is)

I do not have any other programs except the ones that came with my original
Office 2003 Professional disc. I tried going to the Word (which is part of
Office program) and ran detect and repair with the same results.

Ok guys, time to use some more tools. It's possible that your Office
installation has become corrupted, I suggest a full reinstall. This won't
remove any personal Office files stored in your computer. Please follow these
steps that Phillip outlined below before you reinstall Office:

1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility on your desktop and then
double click to install it.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

2. After you install the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, click Start
menu then All Programs and then Windows Install Clean Up.
3. Highlight Microsoft All Office Entries in the list and then click Remove.
Please don't remove any other entries in the list.
4. Click OK and wait for the process to end.
5. Click Exit to close the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.
6. Restart your computer and then install a full version of Office you want.

Then, go to Office Product Updates Web site to check for all available
updates:

I cleaned Office as you suggested, closed down and restarted.
Put original Office 2003 Pro CD into drive and it started. Asked me for my
key code number. Started installing; Here are the screens I got....

1. Welcome to office 2003 set up
2. Preeparing Microsoft Office Prof. Edition 2003 installation wizard.
3. Product Key
4. Typical install
5. Installing progress
6. Validating install
7 Rolling back inst.
8 Did not complete successfully Sorry for inconvenience.

Do you want to report error to Microsoft. I said yes.
Here is the Error message:

C:\DOCUME~/\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Microsoft Office 2003 Setup
(007)_Task_(001).txt
C:\DOCUME~ ....Same as above file except (007).txt

Does this help you in determining what is wrong.

I have had to resort to Outlook Express for my mail and I do not like it as
well as Outlook.

Please help.

I know that my CD is not corrupt.

Thanks for your help.

OK, looks like the uninstall of Office wasn't too clean.

First, I believe that the Startcache error that you reported to Microsoft
(thanks for doing so, it really helps us determine how many people are
affected by this and why) it due to a corrupt or missing Local Installation
Source. Try running the LISTool to disable LIS so it can let you uninstall:
Method 3: Disable Local Installation Source

===========================

1. Download the Local Installation Source Tool from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A3-695B-42C3-9045-B812BA0FED3E&displaylang=en

2. Extract LisTool.exe and LisTool.chm to some location.

3. Run the GUI tool (LISTOOL.exe) and choose the Disable LIS option.
Click next. Select all the check boxes in the subsequent dialog. Then
proceed to Finish.

4. Try to install it again.

If you still can't uninstall Office, try these steps to get it completely
off manually (careful, these are for advanced users, you can do damage if
you're careless):
1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

2. After you install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click Start
menu-> All Programs-> Windows Install Clean Up.

3. Highlight Microsoft Office 2003 entry in the list and then click Remove.
Quit the Utility.

Note: If you have got any other old or redundant office entries or other
Office stand alone products such as Visio in the list, please remove them
together.

4. Close all applications.

5. Click Start menu-> Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.

6. Expand the registry tree on the left pane and locate the following two
registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office

7. Right-click on this key and click Delete to delete those keys.

8. Delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office.

C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11

9. Click Start menu-> Run, type "%Temp%" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.

10. Empty the %Temp% folder.

Note: If some files can't be deleted, please skip them, which don't
influence the result of the troubleshooting.

11. Empty the Recycle Bin.

12. Restart your computer and install Office 2003.

13. Go to Office Product Updates Web site to check for all available
updates:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx

After this is done, please do a complete reinstall, DO NOT CHOOSE THE OPTION
TO DELETE INSTALLATION FILES, and got to Office Update and get all the
suggested updates (including SP2).

Please let me know if this works.

downloaded and extracted List Tool to desktop. I never saw a List tool.chm
to download.

I clicked on the List Tool icon and got error that said: The Local
Installation Source Tool has encountered an error 0x80070002. Contact
Microsoft product support for assistance.

Also if you will not that &quot appears all through your message making it
very hard to interperet.

Advose what I did wrong.\

You were saying to use window installation cleaner to remove. I don't have
Office 2003 listed in my list to clean any more since I remove it previously
with the cleaner.

I downloaded the LisTool from site you referenced. I saved it to
Documents/extracted files.
I then clicked on it and saved it to My desktop. I never saw a file that
said LisTool.chm in order to install it beside the LisTool.exe.

I then went to desktop and clicked on lisTool and I got a Window that said:

The Local installation Source Tool has encountered an error 0x80070002.
Contact Microsoft product support for assitance.

Now what?

Goose.....U R a lifesaver!
I had my office install (and other programs) corrupted by running the
update.bat from ISAServer 2004 SP1. Icons were crazy, file assc hosed,
couldn't uninstall or repair. I used the installer cleanup and was able to
reinstall and get it working. Still getting the error "Update could not be
installed" when trying to apply SP2 though. At least I can work now.

I tried the last option you stated again. Only a few of the TEMP files would
delete.
After I had done everything you said, I reinstalled 2003 Pro and followed
your directions to click to check for updates and NOT to uninstall
installation files.

Hallalulah>>>>>>>>>>The updates downloaded and installed properly and NOW my
Office 2003 Pro works........

Thanks for your help.

Man this has been a problem.....
