Determining Which Copy of Office I Have Installed

I have two licensed legitimate copies of Microsoft Office 2000 Premium.
Often I need to insert an Office CD into a drive to install updates, etc.,
but I cannt tell which copy I have installed on my current computer. The CDs
are identified with a Product "Key", and the Help function in Word or Excel
or whatever identifies the installation with a Product "ID". How can I
determine which set of Office CDs is the one that I used for my current
installation?

Have you considered trying them both? If both copies are the same version of
Office 2000, either one should work to install updates.

If they are not the same version of Office 2000, mark the CD case {not the
CD} of the one that works.

So you think that it is possible that if I pick the wrong set of CDs the
upgrade may still work? I assumed that the upgrade process would check the
Product Key/ID of the installation and the CD to see if they matched.

Yes. If both of your Office 2000 copies are the same version {such as both
retail}, then either should work. If one copy is retail and one is OEM, both
may or may work to install updates{I am not sure}. At worst one CD may be
rejected if the version does not match what is installed and you just use
the other one.

DL is correct activation requirement was phased in during Office 2000.
