Development Order

Deb

I'm a little confused about the order of development. Should I create the
Switchboard first, or set security levels prior to developing the Switchboard?

Also, the Microsoft Office Access 2007 Bible - referencing the security
issues,
"When securing a database, one of the first things to do is remove all
permissions for the Admin user. Removing these permissions prevents other
users from opening the database as the Admin user by using another Access
workgroup file and obtaining the rights of the Admin user."

So, does this mean that I should go in and remove all permissions for the
"Admin", set up the workgroups and users, then come back and reassign the
appropriate permissions?

Please advise.

Re switchboard: it's really up to you and I don't see how that has
much to do with security. I typically create the switchboard (or
ribbon) early on because it helps with navigation and testing.

Re security: User-Level Security is an advanced topic. You should
first download, study, and fully understand the Access Security FAQ
from microsoft.com.
ULS has been removed from the new Access 2007 ACCDB format (although
it is still supported with the MDB format). Hint, Hint.

Deb,

I would create my Switchboard first... THEN I would read....

http://www.jmwild.com/Accesssecurity.htm

and again I would read...

http://www.jmwild.com/Accesssecurity.htm

and then I would back-up my system.mdw file as well as, your database.

You should also note you will need to be using *.mdb format as Access 2007
format does not have the security found in earlier versions.
