diacritics and special characters

I have just started using Access 2003. I import information from text files.
These files contain diacritics and special characters. These do not get
imported correctly. Example: Wüstenhagen imports as Wüstenhagen. If I Copy
from the source txt file and Paste it into Access, I get the correct data. I
changed the Spell checker to German and it made no difference. According to
the Help file all Character Sets are supported.
