Dialing from Outlook - Outlook can't find dialtone.

Hi,
In the past I have been able to dial Contact's phone numbers from Outlook,
and then picking up the phone once the dialing had started.
Now, I can't do it. I get a message that Outlook can't detect a dialtone,
and to check my phone cables or ensure that noone else is on the line. So I
check and all is ok, even the phone that comes out of the second port of the
computer's phone modem works well.
The problem started after I had reconnected the computer after haveing a new
power source installed.

Outlook uses the Windows dialer and the Windows dialer has no provision for
controlling a voice modem after placing the call. The Windows dialer
expects a modem on the other end.

Thanks Brian, I appreciate your answer. I'm not exactly sure of the lingo but
I'm not talking about a fax. If I open up a contact, then in the menu I can
choose Actions | Call Contact. This dials the contact's (voice) phone number
and then tells me by dialog box to pick up the phone so that I can talk with
the contact. Previously when I would do this, I could hear Outlook dialling
for me and then I'd pick up the phone and talk. But now it tells me that it
can't find a dial tone when I know that one is there.
Can I open Windows dialler to review/change any settings?
I wonder what the chances are that my phone card is n.g.?

How do you know?

Use Control Panel's Phone and Modem Options applet (the Modem tab) to test
the modem.
