Dialogue Boxes--Causes and Consequences???

C

Chad Harris

After using word mail with Outlook 2003 (Win XP Pro SP1), I have started to
see this dialogue box and these messages. They seem to come when I'm
closing OL. Sometimes winword stays running in the background on the Task
Manager Process list. I see the dialogue box most frequently, and I'm not
sure what choice to take and why I see it:

"The file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?"
I don't want to mess anything up, and it makes me choose between two choices
I don't understand. I'm looking for the consequence of the choices and the
cause. Also I'm not sure of the consequences of cancel. Shouldn't I take
some action to prevent seeing this?

I have no idea unfortunately what the file Normal is or whether I should
replace it or why I'm being asked. Also can someone help me context the
extension ".Dot?" I have the term global template associated with it
rightly or wrongly in my head and I don't know what a global template is
either.

Other error messages that come up during this time I need help with are
written exactly this way--what should I do to prevent seeing them and what
are their consequences/causes?

"Word cannot open this document this document template. (with the following
different file paths):

(C:\Documents and Settings\...\WWMAIN.DOT)
(C:\...\HiddenFileDetector_Addin.dot)
(C:\...\STARTUP\TaskPaneController.dot)

Thanks much,

Chad Harris
