Are dicom files able to be inserted into powerpoint 2003?

I don't think so, although I'll admit I don't even know what a dicom is.

Ooooooh, Google shows DICOM as digital imaging and communication in
medicine, and I see a freeware DICOM viewer, but no, PPT doesn't support
these kinds of images. Can they be converted or exported as PNG or JPG?

This http://www.sph.sc.edu/comd/rorden/dicom.html says the DICOM IMG files
can be compressed using JPG, so you'll want to do that and then import the
JPGs using Insert|Picture|From File in PPT. If I misread and you can't
export as JPG or another image format, you'll need to take a screenshot of
the image. SnagIt from http://www.techsmith.com is a good utility for this
type of thing, or you can try Alt+Print Screen to capture the window and
Ctrl+V to paste onto a PPT slide.

No, but a handy utility to convert back and forth to other formats (that PPT
can use) is
"imagemagick". A Google will give you multiple download sites.
