Dictionary problem

I am running Microsoft Word 2016 on my Mac. Word is underlining words that are spelt correctly (British English), but when I try to change dictionaries, only Custom Dictionary is listed. I have never added a custom dictionary, nor have I amended anything to do with dictionaries before. How can I fix this, as it will not let me delete this 'Custom Dictionary'?

You need to check that Word's proofing language is set correctly, not the custom dictionary. See:
