did ppt and now it is saying it can not open this type file

Help! my daughter did a power point slide show and now it is only showing up
when I do a search under history. After finding the file, I can not open it.
The message is coming up that ppt can not open this type of file. If it was
created in power point, I can not figure out why it can not open it. I hate
to have all of her hard work lost. Can anyone help me? Thanks!
