Difference between project owner and project manager

Hi Gurus!

Is there any difference between the project owner and the Manager field that
is vissible in the Properties tab? What would happen if I have the Line
Manager as owner and another team leader as Manager?

Project Server formally recognizes both an Owner and a Manager for a
project. The Owner is the person who originally created and saved the
project in the Project Server database. The Manager is the person who
publishes the task assignments the first time, and to whom the system sends
task updates. Refer to the following link for information on how to change
either the Owner or the Manager of the project:

By the way, the Manager field in the Properties dialog is NOT the same as
the Manager to which I refer above. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the reply. Based on this, the Manager field in the
file-Properties dialog, which is maped as Manager in the available fields
when creating views in PWA, is not the real Project Manager? Kind of
confusing right?

Mauricio -

Yes, very confusing. The Manager field in the Properties dialog for the
project usually represents the person who is the manager of the Author of
the project. The Author of the project is usually the project manager, so
therefore, the Manager is probably the project manager's boss. Now, are you
totally confused??? :)

It makes perfect sense within the confusion! I am now using the Manager field
as the Line Manager (the PM boss!).

Thanks Dale!!!

I'm dealing with a project to which I need to change the owner.

I went to Project Center, selected the Project, click the Edit button and
when in the Owner drop down list I can't locate the name of the Project
Manager I want to assing. The strange thing is that I can see this Project
Manager's information in the Resource Pool.

Anybody has some idea on why some resources are not showing up in Project
Web Access?

Mauricio --

The list of names on the Owner list are users that have the New Project
permission. Generally, these are users that are in the Project Managers,
Portfolio Managers, and Administrators groups. If the user's name does not
appear on the list, following could be the cause:

1. He/she is not in one of the Groups described above
2. He/she is in at least one Group in which the New Project permission is
explicitly set to Deny
3. He/she is in one or more Groups, all of which have the New Project
permission set to Not Allowed (neither Allow or Deny is checked)
4. The New Project permission for his/her user account is set to Deny in
the Global Permission grid

Hope this helps.
